The Prince's Dilemma is a thesis 2D animation short film produced at San Jose State University during the 2022-23 Academic year. The film pays homage to classic 1950s animation with a modern twist that aims to reinvent the classic princess fairytale genre for an LGBTQ+ audience. The Prince's Dilemma is a story originating in my own personal experiences balancing conflicting ideas of parental expectations and sexual orientation. Without proper representation or even existence of same-sex couples in animation who sharing in a "happily-ever-after," how was I to understand what possibilities there where for myself. How was I to write my own fairytale ending without these examples of true love? This film addresses this issue and shows children that they themselves don't need to fit into the box, or the tale, expected of them. You are the writer of your own story.
